"Womb Loss"
Miscarriage and Infertility Support Group  in Austin, TX

Are you tired of feeling like nobody understands what you are going through?

Are you looking for a safe and supportive environment where you can feel heard and understood by other women who "get" you and share similar experiences?

Are you ready to begin to heal?

Miscarriage and Infertility Support Group

For women seeking a miscarriage and infertility support group in Austin, TX the Womb Loss group is for women experiencing loss from infertility, miscarriage and perinatal loss. Because these types of losses are unseen, and sometimes even intentionally kept secret, they can be some of the most painful and difficult type of loss for a woman to bear.

Losses associated with this part of a woman's body can impact her deeply, affecting all areas of her life and impeding functioning in her relationships, work and personal life, leading to feelings of:

  • Shame and guilt
  • Grief, loss, and depression
  • Confusion and meaninglessness
  • Frustration, anger and resentment
  • Blame and helplessness
  • Avoidance and numbing

During each miscarriage and infertility support group,  women will have an opportunity to connect with and be supported by other women who can relate to their loss and pain, and where they will be able to process their thoughts and feelings in a safe and sacred space with an experienced mental health professional.

Participants will be guided through individual and group processes to aid in resolving grief, resolving shame, guilt and blame, and restoring hope as they reconnect with and heal their relationship with the feminine "root" or "wombspace".

This miscarriage and infertility support group is centered around personal process, meaning we focus on your internal relationship to your own thoughts and feelings and experiences while using the dynamic of the group to help us better understand ourselves and how we relate to others.

During the Womb Loss miscarriage and infertility support group, participants will experience a variety of techniques for a holistic approach to their personal healing process. In addition to traditional talk therapy methods, mindfulness, yoga and guided visualization, art and movement will be incorporated in to the group process to help you release what no longer serves you, resolve emotional pain, and find power, strength and meaning from your personal experience of loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Types of Loss are Included in This Group?

The Womb Los group is for women who have experienced perinatal loss due to miscarriage, still birth, infertility, hysterectomy, and unsuccessful IVF.  It is open to you at any stage of loss whether it is recent or very old.  If you are primarily seeking help for grief due to a voluntary termination of a pregnancy this group is not a good fit for you but please contact me to inquire about individual therapy.

Admission to a Group

Womb loss is a delicate type of loss and affects every woman differently.  For this reason I carefully interview each potential participant before placing you in a group to ensure that you are matched to a group that is the best fit for your needs.  Every application submission and phone interview is kept strictly confidential.

The phone interview lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.  During the interview I may ask you about your past mental health or counseling experiences,  family or health history, your goals for participating in the group, and a little bit about your loss. You will not have to go into details or re-tell your story and are not expected to share anything more than you feel comfortable sharing.

I experienced a stillbirth or hysterectomy.  Am I eligible to participate in a Womb Loss group?

Yes. Womb Loss groups are also open to women who have experienced loss through still birth or a hysterectomy that has impacted her ability to have children. Please indicate this on your application.

I carried my baby to term even though we knew the baby was not going to survive. Am I eligible to participate in a Womb Loss Group?

Yes. Many women believe that because the carried to term and/or got to see and hold their baby that their type of loss is different from women who experience a miscarriage or infertility loss.  What I have found however is that this is not necessarily so. The Womb Loss groups are open to women who have experienced a variety of types of perinatal loss as the groups are not focused so much on content or story but rather more geared towards personal healing using experiential practices to help resolve grief.

Will I be expected to tell my story?

No.   You will never be expected to tell your story unless you want to. Some women may find relief in the telling of their story while other women may wish to refrain from doing so.  The process of healing is a personal one and you will never be expected or pushed to do something that makes you uncomfortable.

Are the groups just glorified gripe sessions?

No. The Womb Loss groups are focused on helping you to transform and release deep grief by using various holistic processes, approaches and methods. While all expressions of grief and loss are acceptable and everyone is entitled to process grief in their own way, the groups are not a place just to engage in complaining, pushing political agendas or beliefs, or re-hashing old trauma without a means for healing it. The structure of each class helps to ensure that the focus is kept on healing and transformation and careful attention is paid to safeguard against the group becoming "just another place to gripe and complain".

Are the Womb Loss groups religious or political?

No. The Womb Loss groups are not associated with nor do they promote any religion, spiritual belief or political agenda.  The groups are open to women of all walks of life, faith and belief.  While it is understandable that religious beliefs and/or political views may impact a woman's healing process and be an important aspect of her loss that may be valuable to explore in the group, never at any time will any woman be shamed, blamed or coerced by the use of religious or political rhetoric.  Careful attention will be paid by the group leader/s to ensure that all members adhere to this agreement.
